I rode to Golden Colorado in 2005 on my '03 Ultra Classic. It didn't run very well at all after I got north of Colorado Springs. After I got to Denver, it died a few times.

Took my 65 pan w/ a stock Linkert through Rocky Mountain National Park. It was definitely sluggish. Just finished a ride across the top end of New Mexico and Arizona (9000 at the Divide) on an 06 FI Springer. Had to keep a bit more gas on her at idle but bike ran fine otherwise. Big improvement over the carb.

I ran my 09 1200C through 11,000 Colorado passes with no problems and the 09
FXDC topped 12,000 and dipped to 200 below sea level in Death Valley; again without
any problems.

When I started looking for a bike in late 2008, FI was an absolute requirement due to
the areas I live and ride in. I need to have "No Fuss" operation across a wide range of
altitudes since in a matter of a day I can go from 12,000 feet in Colorado to about
4,000 near Las Cruces and El Paso.

Even in the DV heat, I could feel a power improvement at or below sea level vs. my
day-to-day norm in the 6,000-8,000 foot Albuquerque and Sandia Foothills areas.
Low to mid throttle response was not as crisp at the higher altitudes, but even with
a lot of gear slung on it, the bike still performed well.

FWIW...

Your mileage may differ.

Contents may settle.

See my above post. I have ridden from over 12,000 feet to a minus 200 on my 09 FXDC
without any FI problems at all. Yes, that wide range of altitude does have an effect,
but it is minimal and does not significantly compromise the bike's usefulness.

I have ridden with V-rod owners at some fairly high altitudes and they haven't had any
complaints so I wonder if something is off with your unit?
