Here in Italy it's legal.
In other european countries it isn't.
Statistics evaluated with rigorous scientific methods for the purpose of determining the best safety procedures (and not to pursue any political agenda) have shown that either soulution does. None is any better than the other as it comes to safety.
Since lane splitting alleviates traffic and makes life simpler for riders, I'm happy it's legal here.

I don't think so.

I live in the Bay area and lane splitting is very common here. Yes there are fuktards who do it with way too much speed; usually the sport bikes but I have seen some harleys also. I, like many others split lanes when the traffic is at, or close to being at a standstill.
Ahh it is a dumb thing to watch, the car moves after you pass.

i do it all the time here. traffic's bad, i'm not waiting.

cruised by a cop car once sitting in stopped dead traffic and the guy gave me the "wish i was you look" and an in-good-fun middle finger. must have been a rider.

I will lane split if traffic is going stop and go. Not at great speed, but like 15 - 20 mph. That way, at some spots, it gets very narrow, I can stop. Then when there is room enough to pass, I'm off.
I ftraffic is really heavy, I will ride between the cars to get up to the traffic light. Then I can leave the pack behind at the green light.

What the hell is the point of having a bike if you are gonna sit in traffic? You may as well be in car with the air con on

And one would assume that you are posting from experience.....from Oklahoma, where maybe they have one or two freeways...come out here and travel with 100's of thousands of vehicles (counts on many freeways) per day, and experience not only the delays, but the rear ending of cars and MC's in the stop/go traffic. Safer, at a reasonable speed, to lane spit.
