Wellcome back my friend.
You stop riding when your un-comfy. Your big Lady treat you right and show you the freedom we all enjoy. Age is just a number.
Ride free and Ride safe. Remember your never Alone.
Welcome back to riding. In New Mexico we can pretty much ride year round. I just don't go out when it threatens snow. I'm 54 and really feel that riding keeps me young. I'm sure many others feel that way too.
It's trial and error, when I went on the spring flood run I felt like a kid that mom dressed up to go outside in the dead of winter. When we got half way thru I peeled off some clothes and finished the run. Most times I take a short five mile run and see how I feel, if I'm on the cold side I put on another layer. When you're older the circulation in the blood ain't what it used to be. But I would still ride all year if it weren't for the snow and ice.
Welcome back and congrats on the new ride. I'm in NE Indiana and I have found that when its so cold on the ride to work that it takes me all day to warm up then its time to only ride in the afternoons or until I just can't stand it. I normally will get mine out even during the winter months on clear road days just to get in the occasional ride, in fact my avatar pic was taken in late January. So its just sort of what ever you can stand for as long as you can.
I ride in the 40's on an 02 Ultra. No problems; just get some good gloves. Heated grips would be great. the 02 has been a great machine. No problems other than early rear tire wear. Did Sturgis from San Antonio, been to Daytona (twice), Did Arkansas, did Key West. Being in San Antonio I worry more about the heat then the cold!! Gona do Grand Canyon next year. This year gona fly to Rapid City, meet my bestum buddy and ride one of his two Glides for Sturgis
I have had BMW's, Honda's and started on a Craftsman scooter. I am most happy with my Ultra.
I don't like riding if the temp gets below 45 F. I can ride OK from 45 to 60 with leather coat and heavy gloves. 60 to low 70s need light jacket and light gloves.
