So..I turn 40 tomorrow. I gave the wife a couple of mid-life-crisis options:
A: 20-something hot Blonde girlfriend
or
B: HD Fat Boy Lo
She chose the Fat Boy Lo, and tomorrow I will reserve my bike manufacture slot and will pick it up when I get home for R&R in May 2011.
It's been 20+ years since I rode a bike..and back then is was a friends dirt bike...far away from the eyes of my parents. I am planning on taking a new rider course at the HD dealer before I take the bike home.
Any tips for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.
Taking some rider courses I think is a good idea, thes newer bikes are alot heavier than some of the smaller ones of yesteryear.... I listened and paid attention to those who have ridin all the years i didnt when i startedagain 5 years ago. Congrats, Ride safe
Had a similar experience at age 35 with our second kid on the way...bought a bike and have been rollin' ever since and enjoying every day of it. Just take it slow and get your MSF course out of the way. Remember what you learn in the course goes into your "toolbox" and occassionally you need those skills--not a bad idea every now and then to return to your training ground and work on those short quick turns. Enjoy and welcome from the Buckeye state!

Congrats and welcome. A plus on the class. The comment about the parents reminded me of when I bought my first Harley. I was 41 and was somewhat scared to tell my mom, it was like I was 15.
So, I pick her up for Thanksgiving, we head to my house, we go through the garage and she says "Nice bike, when did you get that"?
After that, all she had to say was "Be careful". Like stated above, don't ride beyond your skills and remember, "Never ride faster than your angel can fly".
