Default Oil Crazy

New Member - New Bike (2010 FLHTC). I changed the factory "break-in oil, both engine & trans @ 500 miles with Syn3. @ 1000 miles, my dealer changed all oil using regular oil. What problems will this cause & should I change back to Syn3, or continue using Harley's regular oil?

Depends on how long between changes you plan to go. Harley's oil will go 2500 with no problems, but so will alot of 20/50 wt oils. I guess it depend on price an how may miles you ride.,,

I like to break in new engines w/conventional oil. The dealer did my 1000 service w/conventional oil (my choice), then I changed to full synthetic (M1 20/50) at about 2000, then regular changes at 5000. If you read around a little about oil on this site, you probably won't want to use Syn 3 anymore.

Did you happen to get an owner's manual with your ride? Give it a quick read. By the time you read through this post, you'll be totally confused.

BTW- congrats on the new ride, I'm sure you're gonna love it.

I'd just leave it until the next oil change. Believe it or not, dino oil is not going to destroy your motor. But you're probably going to get a couple thousand answers to this thread. Everyone here loves oil threads. Congratulations on your new ride.

No problem to switch to Syn 3 any time. Changing oil at 500 MI was a good move.
IMO you would have been better off to run regular oil up until 2500.
