Im new to the shield thing. When Im riding half the time Im looking through the thing the other half above it. Ive got to slouch a little to see through but stretch to see over. What does everyone else do?

I'm short enough (5'8") to look through mine. I'd have to really stretch to look over it. I've had guys tell me you should look over it and an equal number say it's ok to look through it.

I am tall enough to see over it some are short and can see thru it,either get a taller shield or have a couple inches cut off of it,this can be done at any glass company

You have to be able to look over it if you will ride at all in the rain.

Other than that, it's preference.

Mine was right at eye level so I cut it down 2 inches with a RotoZip. Carefully marked 2 inches with a marker then took all the attachments off and carefully cut just outside the line. Then took sandpaper and rounded the edges smooth. I would also suggest putting masking tape on both sides and drawing your line on the tape. This helps with keeping the edges from chipping.
If you don't want to do it yourself take it to a plastics place. Most will do it for a small fee but make sure you remove all the hardware.
