Default GPS tracking for Android

I am looking for a nice app for my Android that can track my route so I can go back and look at it later. I have gone out a few times and really have no idea what roads I was on. I would love to be able to email the route to myself or log into a site to look at it.

So what, if anything are you guys using with your Droid.

This is what I use. I do a lot of solo long distance riding and you don't always have cell service. Plus, my wife and friends can track me in real time and see that I am still moving even when she cannot contact me by cell phone.

I use a free app called MyTracks. Couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I like the Spot, as well. Many of the best riding areas out here in the PNW have no cell coverage, but the Spot works everywhere. Provides a nice history of your rides.

My Droid GPS App is fine in the car, but worthless on the bike, IMHO. I use my Zumo 550 for riding, and can store routes, if needed.

I downloaded My Tracks, I will see how I like it...

I am not wanting to be able to use GPS for directions, just to keep track of the route I take so I can go back and look at it. So I think that phone in my pocket running an app like this should do the trick...

Thanks
Phil

Do the apps work if you lose data connection? I usually just put my garmin in my pocket for tracking routes and it works great. I find the GPS on my Experia X10 is useless as soon as I'm outside of the city limits or off the main highways. Whenever I stop and want to look at a map, I end up pulling out the GPS because the x10 maps can't be refreshed due to loss of 3G.

Hmmm, not sure... At first I would say that it should work becuase GPS is GPS, and it just depends on the antenna on the GPS as to weather or not it gets a signal, but then I thought about the fact that the phone uses teh internet to get the maps. So it does not do any good for the GPS to tell you where you are if you cannot see a map. I have tried to use my GPS on my phone before when I had the Internet turned off. It just showed me a green dot on a blank map. I could still get my coordinates, direction of travel, etc. But I could not see a map. I suppose you might be able to buy maps and store them on a Mini SD card but I have never seen or heard of it. Just guessing.

The tracker will still record GPS position as long as there is a GPS fix, regardless of data or phone connection status. If you want to see a map of the trip, you'd need to upload the file to something like Google Maps which will take the stored coordinates of the GPS track and place them on a map background.

That's all a .gpx or .kml file is after all; a list of coordinates with no map data. The file depends on the program opening it to align that data up with a map.
