My 07 ultra was cooking me. I just upgraded to a SE air cleaner, Rush sip ons, and a SERT. After uploading a canned program for my bike my oil temp went from 240 to 198 on the same ride. The new 96ci is leaned out from the factory to meet EPA standards. Talk to your dealer first. All my work is still under warrenty.

What do you consider "normal" for a 96" Stroked V-Twin?

Normal operating Temp is 260 degrees (ET Sensor in #2 [Front] Head).....

Closed loop at Start-up, idle and WOT..... (No o2 modification to map).....

Bigger displacement, Leaner Fuel Map, more heat.....

drichards, is the SERT available now with maps for the 07 tourings? What letter does the part number end with. I tried to order a SE air cleaner today and was told they would not be available until October.

Which also equates to shorter engine life. Right?

Not necessarily......

The current map (Factory) is about 14.5 - 14.8 : 1 AFR 88 or 96".... (Baseline @ 20% load)

Evolution was about 14 : 1 on an 80".....

Both motors are VERY reliable and do not need any more specialized attention.....

Even the service intervals have been stretched out over the past 5 years on the ENTIRE bike, not just the motor.....

With the infusing of Synthetic lubes and better alloys for the internals, the new motors are projected to outlast their predecessors......

one thing to make note of.... EXTREMELY long life motors that you hear about are religiously maintained and are mostly stock....

If you take care of it, and break it in correctly, the heat will dissipate, and the motor will run like it was designed, RELIABLE....

BTW, forgot to mention that the stock mufflers are coated with Catalyst compound, and the 103/110 builds have solid catalysts in them.....

Catalysts generate heat, due to the chemical reaction of the exhaust gas' reacting to convert to H2O......

I have an 07 Ultra and noticed the engine heat as well. Second thing I noticed is the exhaust pipes have turned blue and brown. This is especially noticeable in the area that is not covered by the chrome covers. Is this to be expected on an 07.

Hotter motors do live shorter lives. On EHs (before the new ECM mapper was created), 275 was seen by many in the southern states. Only solution at the start was a fan assist cooler. The big one I have (about 8.12) knocked it down to 225. Now that we can adjust a/f and more, many see sub-200s, which is great. If a remap does not drop it below the 220-ish mark, put on a cooler.

While my bike was in the shop this time with transmission problems. I asked them to check on the what I thought was over heating. They said they put it on a digital thermometer and it was running 287 degrees and that was within the normal range set by Harley. I told them that it was hard to believe that Harley would build something that uncomfortable for the rider and passenger. My wife will not ride with me on this bike because it burns her left leg so badly. They said the glowing red exhaust was also normal. My bike has been in the shop for 14 of the 30 days since I took delivery mostly for transmission trouble and a lot of that was waiting on the MoCo to send the parts. I told them if they couldn't fix it to my satifaction to sell it. They reminded me how much money I would lose. So much for Harley resale value. I guess that only applied to pre 07's. If a few thousand will get me out of this mess I guess it will be worth it.
