people generally want to see justice done on the guilty, unless they're the guilty ones....
(hence "why don't you catch the real criminals" from the average motorist during a traffic stop)
OP - 'generally' not a good idea to approach LEO's while they are taking enforcement action of any kind.... may have felt good to try and add to the violations but its a bad time to interact with the officer (if you must, at least wait until after the initial approach to the violators vehicle so the officer has some idea of who/what he is dealing with)
