Not even bothering to read all the answers in the thread. Lose the death grip. If you can't ride with just your thumb and index finger holding throttle then you are over gripping or your bike handles like crap.

sounds like carpal tunnel, surgery does have risks though.
I got a staph. infection and spent a week in the hospital and almost lost two fingers, still don't have full use of them.
I put iso grips with the throttle boss on and wear gel pad gloves.
I would bet on the begining of carpal tunnel. Do you also notice that hand going to sleep if you hold a phone to your ear a good while? Have you you noticed you drop small items quite often and not even notice? Does your little finger and half of the finger next to it go to sleep first, or the most? If so you need to see a surgeon. I had mine done ten years ago, I then went back to doing the same type of work, using one inch air impact wrenches, air hammers and other heavy tools and screwed it up again.
ditto on the tight gloves thing. My right thumb was killing me after about 30 minutes and I couldn't figure out the problem until I went for a short ride and never put on my gloves. My hand was just fine, so I tried putting on my gloves and that did it...my right thumb began to ache again. I found that the seam and stitching was just a bit too tight and pressed on the nerve at the back of my thumb.
