They sold it to the only buyer they could find. Had they known when they purchased the company the world economy would spiral into the worst recession since 1929, I'm sure they wouldn't have made the purchase. With 20/20 hindsight, it was a bad investment.

Bad investment in a good economy.

People that want Harley's do not want no Italian bikes. How people forget the Amarichi (sp) bikes the MOCO rebaged as Harleys.

My understanding is HD was overflowing with cash 3 years ago. By buying MV, which has a dealership network in Europe, HD could use their established stores to sell HD along with MV. But MV was losing money then and when the economy tanked, they probably were hemorrhaging funds. With Harley now also in the red, the investment necessary for MV was just to high. Jiust like Buell, HD decided to rid itself of the other makes and concentrate on only Harley products.
