I am using a 1GB card with no problems. It does take 2-3 seconds to initialize, but that isn't a big deal. I haven't tested anything larger. I have no reason to believe that a 2 GB SD card wouldn't work. I have a 2 GB card @ home I could test with. The main thing is that the card has to be formatted in the FAT32 format to accept that many files on the root of the card. With the HA90, files have to be on the root of the drive, it cannot handle files within folders like a typical MP3 player (it is older technology, but it works fairly well for what it is).
I don't know if I would tempt fate trying to use a SDHC card. Those cards are usually 4 GB or higher, and there have been known to be compatibility issues with older card readers.
Mine does not go into random when I turn it on, but I am only using a 1Gb card. It DOES however lose track of what song it was on if I shut it off when the song number is over 250 or thereabouts.
Since the HD mp3 player has little in the way of organization and navigation, I find it easier to stick with smaller cards and swap them out on the fly.
