Default Harleys 94% USA

Thunder Press had an article a month or so ago that stated that Harleys are 94% Made in the USA. Someone even made the comment that though the front ends are Showa they are made in the USA.

So even though most clothing and accessories come from China or elsewhere it appears the bikes are mostly from here.

So, the question of the day is: Where are the other 6% of parts made and what are they?

Is that 94% by weight, by piece or by labor cost?

I think they give equal weight to each part, not the value of each part. In other words, a lock washer or o-ring made in the U.S. is given equal weight to a primary chain made in Italy. On this basis, 94% might be American made. If they were to calculate the value added, I suspect the percentage would be lower.

Even back in '94, My Heritage Softail had wheel rims from Italy, carb, forks, shocks, switches, starter motor, brake rotors and electrical parts from Japan. That's just what comes to mind, I'm sure there's more.

Don't see anyone bashing MOCO for 'everything'. Critical of the percentage used is all. Own three pans and just this May I bought an 06 so that I could restore the 65. Its a bit odd not having a kicker but the 06 has performed very well. Put almost 6K on her without problems.

Think if you own one you have the right to criticize.;if not ya got no say. Same apply for those who lambast the metric crowd.

Default Seems Harley is doing pretty good in this regard

Just look at Boeing, GE, GM, Ford, Chrysler etc etc. They all have non US parts in them. On the flip side, look at BMW cars. The M4's and all their SUV's are made in the US (except for the motor). I wouldn't give a damn if 50 % of Harley was made overseas. I still love the brand and the bike. How many of you have US made TV's just because they are made in US?
