Question about broken kick stands

jiffy stand fail
Actually it happened on a recent trip. Went over a speed-bump just a little too fast and the spring got knocked off, so the stand wouldn't stay up. No problem w/ it staying down, though, as it locks into a groove in the down position, even w/o the spring (just the weight of the bike). It was a real bitch getting the spring back on, though, even w/ some help.

Gotta say that sometimes worries me,the stand deciding to break whilst the bikes leaning on it.I always remember the magazine ad Harleys put out in the 90s which showed a dyna parked up facing down a steep hill with a guy leaning against it,every time i saw it i imagined the bike rolling off the stand,and summersaulting down the road.
