I love all the "well, I've never done it but it's not fun" or "I don't care what you ride it's not fun" stuff.
To my ears that translates to "I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'll talk anyway!"
I'd done a bunch of 750-800 mile trips without problems, so my little brother and I planned (and ran) our SS1K this summer.
It was a blast! We had so much fun, very little fatigue, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
I'll never see 40 again, but I'd see another SS1K without blinking. As for the certification, that makes it harder for someone to roll their eyes and say "Yeah, right! No one could do that many miles in one ride?"
What kind of person would say that? The same ones that say "I don't care who you are, it's not fun."
Well, that about says it all.
Either do it, or shut it up.
If you do it, more power to you.
If you don't, no shame in that, but don't criticize those that did it.
my ride to sturgis solo this year qualified as an SS1000 and BB1500 (of course I did not actually do the paperwork). I ride a Fatbob and the mileage is no big deal at all. That being said I really think you have to be in good shape, with good core strength and ride a lot of miles normally or your body is going to hate you after it. Also safety has to be a priority, riding tired is a recipe for disaster.
I would like to do the around the greatlakes ride they have, that looks interesting.

I can attest to that...
On my trip back from Virginia, I actually fell asleep on the bike doing 65-70mph. Wasn't but a few seconds, but I can fully appreciate what may have happened had I not realized it. Stopped very next chance and got 40 winks on park bench at rest stop...

When I start trying to fool myself by saying "I'll just close ONE eye for a minute" Then it's time to stop for the night at the nearest motel.
It's all BULL$HIT ! I have a friend of mine who has done one to get his patch . drove all around the Great Lakes and didn't see fukc all of it because he was trying to make time . The other issue is that he rides a Honda Valkyree . HUGE bike with fairing , hard bags and trunk , GPS, radio , cup holder sheep skin on the seat , cruise control , the whole bit . I ride a Harley Dyne , well NO $HIT he can ride father than I'd want to go , the bikes are nothing alike ( I'm not in beed of proving what a biker I am either). I'm riding a motorcycle and he's on a rolling recliner . So to me it's hardly bragging rights . Just using my friend as an example , but I mean basically a big a$$ touring bike is going to be MUCH easier to ride on for a long time , so what are you really proving other than you like a comfy bike to ride or you have the money to buy one , or you don't mind driving through really nice places without taking time to enjoy them ?

Ahhhh...No. Sorry, but your translation is skewed.
It means that if you've been ridin' all your life and to you 500 miles in day is pushin' it, and even then that generally sucks. So, to a person like that (ie; me), 1000 miles is going to suck that much more. Call me a puss, I don't care. I've been riding long enough to know better.
