Default Oil indicator... Help!!!

After riding about two hours on the open road with a pretty nice weather, when coming to low rpm's (traffic or red light stops), the oil indicator started flashing in sync with the engine's decreasing frequency and if I did not keep it runing accelerating it went off. The oil is new and the level correct, the oil's temperature was showing 200 F degrees in the gauge dipstick.

Someone told me that the oil was too hot and was getting thinner and that that was the reason, the oil loosing pressure and the engine protects itself by turning off, have any of you had a similar experience??? Solution??? I've looked

'99 carb Evo Fat boy.

Best regards.

What is the idle RPM and what oil are you using?

...I've looked at the H-D parts catalog and there is no Oil Cooler kit for '99 and earlier models, not that this is the solution but just for information.

My bike has less than 10K kilometers.

"idle RPM" ??? damn! I'm not familiar with the term...

as for the oil, I'm using the H-D regular I guess... (not the 3-1 escreaming eagle), Not sure either on the viscosity (I'm embarrased, never changed my bike's oil, the dealer has...)

I do lots of bolt on accessories for my ride and my friend's, but when it comes to the engine, I barely touch it...

Could you explain a little bit?

Thank you,

Best regards.

Don't know your mileage. But since it is a 99, it might be time to rebuild the oil pump. Sounds to me that the pump gears are worn.

Idle RPM is the revolutions per minute the engine is turning. There is a tachometer on your bike, right?

Most of the stock HD bikes I've seen, idle at about 1000 RPM's.

I follow... the running "stand by" rpm's... No idea, I don't have a Tachometer.

My bike's temperature ramp is something like this:

-From a cold engine it gets stable only until the oil temperature reaches 100 F

-No problem from 100 to whatever F

-Reaching 200 F or above, there we go with the "I'm gonna shut down crap" oil light kind of problem...

So??? Is there something I should be looking at here, get a tach??? Increase the viscosity of the oil???

Regards.

My 98 ultra wasn't shutting down but it was sure running bad when the light came on and the pressure guage was zero. The outside temp was about 110 and I had been running on the back roads at about 35MPH. When I checked the oil viscosity was less than water. My manual said that when running at above 80 degrees OS temp SAE 60 is in order. Changed the oil that night and haven't had a problem since. Now it's 20w50 in late September and SAE 60 in late May.

200 degrees is not too hot, and if you're using the correct oil at the correct level, there is definatly a problem. Have it checked out by a tech. ASAP

Not sure how it's wired but it could be a bad sending unit and not actually low oil pressure(?)
