I have the SM and tools but will need torque wrenches. What's the deal with foot lbs. and inch lbs.? My buddy said it's divisible like 120 ft lbs is the same as 10 in lbs. So do I need both types or can I get by with just one and do the math?
Do yourself a favor and buy both, they're not that expensive. Mine are Craftsman I got at Sears on one of their many sales. Harbor Freight also sells pretty cheap wrenches.
Do a search and you'll see a ton of threads on this.

120 fp would be 144 in lbs. 12 ip = 1 fp. In answer to your question, you could just do the math, but an ip torque wrench is limited I dont think it goes over 15 fp max. Ip wrenches are usually 1/4" dr. some have 3/8", where fp come in 3/8" and 1/2". The other thing to consider is accuracy. An ip wrench is more for fine torques where fp wrenches are for heavier torques, so they may not be as accurate at lower torque settings, and you could end up stripping or breaking bolts.
I too suggest you get both. Also think about drive size of the sockets you'll be using as you may need adapters, such as 3/8" to 1/2" or 1/2" to 3/8" depending on the sockets and wrenches you buy.
