Holy chit. I am 58. I have no cartilage in my thumb joints. I have been on Celebrex for 10 years.
When I rode sport bikes, leaning on the bars killed my hands..pain big time.
My new Dyna is not a problem...the clutch is pretty easy compared to most bikes.
Maybe you need Celebrex or other pain meds.
The drugs are coming. Right now I'll stick to Ib's. Dad went this route, starting almost the same way I am. He is 58 and mostly crippled. He rides an automatic scooter (Yamaha Majesty). No clutching for him. His brake hand still works though.
I have severe RA..I have to take Prednisone 1 week ahead of a ride just to make it...Bigger grips, Cruise. Cramp busters. It might be Carpal tunnel issues...is you can have the surgery it is worth all the money.Buddy of mine just had it done to both hands last year...
Friend of mine got jolted with 69k volts some years ago. Has limited use of clutch hand. He has had an aftermarket clutch assist throwout installed along with this mechanism installed in-line on the clutch cable. Amazingly easy. Will try to find out more about both tomorrow.
Also, you may want to consider a lever that offsets more into the grip, making it an easier reach.

I can't believe I am making this post at 35. Sucks....
Anyway. I am getting some arthritis in my hands. Some days it isn't pleasant to pull the clutch. Is there anything that can be done to soften it up?
Thanks for the ideas.
Is it diagnosed arthritis? I've had some pretty serious tendonitis before that made me think I was crippled - turned out I was just playing guitar too much.

That sounds good. I have a buddy with a screwed up left hand (he caught it in an auger at a flour mill). He rides a Goldwing and thinks if I do the same, I won't have anymore problems. Goldwing is not an option. Yuck.
