Is anyone having this issue with the Men's FXRG® Midweight Leather Jacket.
The zipper is not working, the zipper was designed to basically keep the water out. It has very small teeth and will not close correctly. When I first bought the jacket it had the problem the same day so I exchanged it for a new one. Figured it was just a bad one. A year later and I am now having the same issue. Let me just say that this is a very well made jacket and a quality product from HD (before all the MOCO bashing starts). [8D] Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and if so what have you done to resolve it. I could probably send it back to HD, but am thinking maybe having a tailor just put a new zipper on.
Have had no problems with mine, but I just got it this year. Not sure if it is the same jacket you got. Was thinking about the overpants before it starts getting to cold.
I have the FXRG nylon jacket (which I believe is pretty much the same jacket, just nylon rather than leather). The problem I have noticed with the zippers is that the jackets have a loose "liner" that is fairly close to the zipper. Many times I've found that a piece of the liner gets caught in the zipper as I go to zip it up, so I have to back it up to get the liner out, then zip up again. I've especially had problems with this when zipping up the sleeves because of the liner they have in there. I don't think the size of the teeth has ever caused me a problem, though.
I have to admit that I like the velcro sleeves and stiffer liner on my summer mesh jacket better in terms of getting the jacket on, but the FXRG is more comfortable when I wear it, and will provide a lot more wind and water protection in colder weather, but it's a pain getting the FXRG on when I'm wearing it on a ride.
I have a different FXRG but no problems yet. Do you not have a five year warranty? See what the dealer will do about it. H-D may authorize you to take it to a tailor for repair.
I have the nylon version. I always have to take my time and SLOWLY zip up or I can't get it done. Overall, I like the jacket way too much to make an issue of it, I just take my time during my slow zip ritual.
Most of the crap you buy now days has a plastic zipper. My HD Jacket had the same problem and I had the zipper replaced with a metal type. Cost me $9.00 to have it replaced.
