Default Anyone have this problem?

About 2 months ago I had the stealer install a Stage 1 AC and V&H BSS.

I picked up the stock exhaust from the service dept., dropped it in my trunk and didn't think about much else besides getting on the Bob with the new pipes.

So I get home and realize they didn't give me the stock AC parts back. So I called and they "found" them.

But today (almost 2 months later) I was cleaning out my trunk and realized they didn't give me the chrome heat shields from my stock pipes!

I have to call tomorrow to see if they have them, but WTF! Do any of you have issues with stealers keeping your parts after an upgrade?

I spend enough there, I should at least get the parts back!

Most shops will ask you if you want the old parts, but there are those you have to tell them "i want all of my Old parts" or most likely you will never see them again except on possibly some one elses bike.

We throw'em in the dumpster after two weeks if they're not picked up. The stock filter and plastic backing plate are definately not worth US "keeping" for any reason. The same goes for the exhaust. The fact that your heat shields are missing means somebody there may have needed them- possibly for a scraped-up one on a trade-in (that's the only reason WE would take them off), but if we didn't pitch that stuff, our service department would be full of garbage quick. I know we try to get the customers to come back within that 2 weeks to get their stuff, but most wait months and then complain when it's gone. It IS yours, so if you want it, get on them to get it rounded up and set aside for you. Then make sure you get in there in a timely manner to pick it up.

You should have paid more attention when work was finished. You got your stock exhaust and didn't notice the heat shields were gone? That's a pretty big oversight. And, you didn't think about the other stuff? Hmmm... Could they have done a better job? Maybe. Could you take some personal responsibility. Maybe.

A lot of that stuff is worthless for resale, but the heat shields are expensive, and actually have more demand for them than other "take-off" parts. Good chance it was intentionally forgotten by someone who needed them (or had a buddy who needed them).

When I did the stage one on my old '05 they asked if I wanted the take offs. But when we upgraded the passenger backrest and a few other items on the '09 I told them I wanted the take offs.... I had to ask for them again, when we picked up the bike.

I totally agree it was an oversight on my part, but. . . I kind of expected everything to be in it's place, especially on the exhaust.

And in my defense, I was psyched about the new exhaust, and coudln't wait to get the nasty stock pipes out of sight.

My only issue is if I wanted to re-sell or put them back, I can't.

I was just curious if it was a common dealer practice. This is my first "new" Harley and my first experiences with a dealer. I always delt with indepedent shops for my sportster since the dealers in my area wouldn't even look a bike over 10 years old. (Probably for good reason)

Thanks for the help.

The dealership I worked at sold the take off parts by the pallet load. I don't know where they went but it was free money for the dealer.
