Default Dyna vs Softail basic differences

I currently have a metric cruiser and am looking to upgrade. I have been looking at various Dyna an Softail models, and like some of the features and appearance of each but cannot narrow it down to ither family or a particular model

Can anyone explain the basic differences between Dyna family vs. Softail models. The pice points seem to be close and I'm sure that each one targets a certain type of rider while the other targets other types of riders. Can you help clear the confusion?

You must test ride the bikes to see how much you like a particular model. Then you will know the ride and feel of power you are looking for.

Softails are meant to capture the look of the old hardtail bikes- except they have hidden rear suspensions. They also use balanced engines rigid mounted to the frame. Dynas have conventional swingarm rear suspension, and use rubber mounted engines. Aside from that, each model is different for both lines (front forks, wheels, fenders, etc).

Google "dyna vs softail" and you will find a ton of info from this and other forums. Most from riders that have ridden both.

Dyna's are poser bikes . where as the Softails are the closest thing to the legendary Hardail as you can get..

And Dyna's are for sissy's who can't handle a little bump here and there, and need a bunch of shocks on the outside of the bike. That should sum it up

I know you're having fun and just talking a little smack.

If you've ridden both, you'll know that the Softails provide the more plush ride. A Dyna's suspension is a little firmer, and the frame offers more lean angle. Of course, suspension is always replaceable in the after-market. Softails also weigh considerably more.

Dyna's are the step down IMO, they are lighter, and a bit more uncomfortable, again, IMO. The Softail will be a better bike for longer rides.

You can ride a long ways on any bike. It just depends on how candy your *** is.
