So, what, we throw ride comfort out the window? Doesn't matter anymore?
to me, its still about what bike fits you best. I needed something a little bigger than the Dyna and anything over the Softail was too wide or big. I have never heard anything over 1500 cc made only for women or pole smokers.
Oh boy, here we go again. Both platforms are great -- hell they're Harleys! Both have their good points, but face it, compared to a sports bike all Harleys are leisurely performers.
I like the long narrow look of Night Trains and FXSTs, especially the later because I prefer gray motors. But Dynas have that '60s look I loved when I was first riding Harleys.
You cannot go wrong with either one. Just don't buy a Road King, everyone knows those bikes are ridden by accountants... ;- )
Don't be a *****, buy 'em both! One thing though, everyone that's ever rode a Harley knows that dyna's handle better in the snow and ice,, but for offroad and sweet air off jumps, softail's the answer. If ya wanna use your bike for combat fighting, sportster's your bitch, easy to swing around by the junk, whack them road worrior types. If ya wanna know what model is best for long rides, I would toss the suspension argument out the door. They all get bumpy when bumps are in the road,, get a seat of each, put one on a bar stool, sit on it and watch Dances with Wolves or some stupid *** long movie like that. Take the one that feels the best after that and buy they bike it fits on.
