I've run up that road (Mt. Washington Road Race... held every June). Minimum 30° temp difference between base and summit! Shortly after the road turns to dirt, you're above treeline. I know a lot of cars have to pull over on the way down because their brakes are smoking. I'd like to try it on a bike (when the 4-wheeled idiots are somewhere else).
Another good ride in southern New England is the Mohawk Trail in autumn. Google "Hairpin Turn on Mohawk Trail" sometime.
I've driven it every year now for the past 10 years so far but probably would never do it on my bike. Especially with my wife on the back. Just about every time I've driven it, I've seen someone drop their bike. Either at the top, trying to turn into the parking lot or on one of the switchbacks where traffic had stopped and it was too steep to put your feet down.
It's nerve racking to say the least but it is absolutely beautiful!!
Kudos to those of you that ride it. I'd consider doing it on a smaller bike but not on my Electra Glide.
