Lots of good information here. Once again I will say it, it is a buyers market. Check Craigslist for neighboring towns, you may save a mint by driving an hour or two. That price sounds high to me, but I am by no means an expert on salvage titles.

Are you sold on that exact style of bike? Or just on the deal?

Thank yall for all the good advice. After everything that's been said I think I will just wait for the right clean titled deal to come along. I'm not looking to turn around and sell whatever bike I get any time soon but I would like the peace of mind knowing that the bike I buy will make a reliable daily rider.

Smart thinking. Good bikes really are cheap right now. Good luck.

I buy and sell bikes and as far as resale a salvage title is the kiss of death. Yeah, you can get a lower price up front but your title will have a "brand" on it. Some will say salvage, non repairable etc, depending upon the state. We are going into the softest part of the sales season. Be patien, wait till end of October, early November. You will be able to find a nice bike WITHOUT a branded title. Goog luck!

Yeah I don't thnk I'll be able to get one until then anyways. I need to sell my other car first so I'll have the money for a bike.

I know I've asked this before in another thread but this one has been getting more attention. Other than a sportster what would I be able to get for $5000 or less? And would a sportster be too small for me? I'm 6'3" and 250lbs.

Some can't afford that either or don't want a 10 year old bike so, they look at salvage title bikes. You get what you can afford if you really want a bike. A salvage title bike may be the only choice of the OP for a bike of that year and mileage.
As for resale, I can darn well gaurrantee that those that bought brand new chromed out bikes will lose WAY more money on resale after a couple of years of riding, than you would on a salvage title bike for 6k.
If all you can afford is a salvage title bike, make sure you know exactly the damage that occured, and know that it was repaired by a reputable shop. If you don't have either of that info, keep looking.
As for the price of the bikes the OP is looking at, I can't tell you if it is a good price because I haven't shopped around at S titled bikes.
Well said. I agree.

It rides great and fits my needs.
Yep, i'm thinking of doing the same thing & like you i'm thinking of buying it to ride & keep.

Not too sure on the prices in America, but looking on Ebay, i think you will find it hard to buy a decent bike (other then a Sporty) for 5k or less. And being 6'3" & 250lbs, you might look a bit big on a lil' Sporty.
