I never thought of gear as taking away from the fun factor. There is another thread going about lovebugs. With gear on, I don't worry about bugs, tar, rocks, whatever. Coming from a helmet state (MD) and riding into PA, a non mandatory state, it does look strange sometimes if I"m the only one wearing a helmet. To each his own.

They don't have that choice in States where riders do actually have the choice. If you're trying to base it on it being "careless", we can just expand that to no insurance coverage if you are found to be going 10 over the speed limit....I'm sure you never do that though,,,,,right?
Actually, I don't go 10 over the limit. I hate speeding tickets. I also know that insurance companies don't have that choice in either condition. I'm saying they should have that choice. Then if an insurance company is willing to forego that choice they can. But I will insure with a company that would exercise that right because my rates would be cheaper.
Your home owners insurance goes down, when you have a fire extinguisher, smoke alarms, safes. Your auto insurance is cheaper if you have few or no claims, speeding tickets or such all because their chances of obligation goes down. Same with wearing a helmet. You can say it doesn't go down alot but, it definitely goes down.
Just to make it clear because some don't read all the posts. I am for CHOICE of helmet
Never us to wear one in KS but had an accident in MO and was glad they have a helmet law. Now I don't ride without one. My choice! Isn't great to have the choice?
I always ride with a helmet, and anyone who chooses not to wear one, as a signifier of personal freedom, is a hapless participant in a reactionary cohort whose misplaced confidence in their collective abilities to avoid injury through riding style, compromises both themselves and other road users.......just sayin'
Thanks for tellin me and the world how fing wise you are. I'll make my choices you make yours!
It's an option here. Most of the rocket boys wear them all the time around here. I wore my Bell half to Columbus and back today. First time I've worn a helmet all summer I think
If you're one of the lucky ones to live in a free choice state, thank an ABATE member. I happen to be one of the lucky ones, but then again I don't wear a seat belt much either.
My choice, not yours.
