Default roadtrip

well in a couple weeks, i will be taking my first long road trip. about 1010 miles each way in fact. i will be riding from my home in denver co to my former home in chicago il. i will likely be traveling though nebraska and iowa along i-80. im wiritng because i would love to have some company on any leg of the trip. i may take the southern route and go though kansas and missouri on the way there or back, haven't decided yet. anyway, if anyone is planning on going through any of these parts, i am leaving denver on the 5th of july, and plan on riding a little over 500 miles each day for 2 days (unless i re route through kansas, in which case i will likely take 3 days) i will be returning on the 15th thru the 17th or 18th. so wish me luck! i have no idea what i am doing i have done it in car several times in under 14 hours... i am thinking it will take me a couple days minimum on a bike. i can already hear my *** yelling at me.

Sounds like a good trip. 500 miles a day should be a breeze.

Drink lots of water, use sunscreen, and have fun.

If you don't normally wear a helmet, be advised that Nebraska and Missouri are both helmet states.

Regards,

Bill

Me too. Make sure you listen when it really starts complaining. Have fun and ride safe.

The trick is to get off the bike and walk around, enjoying every stop. When you stop for gas, don't do the cage thing...jump back on the bike and go before you realize you've stopped.

Go in, drink some water, get a bite to eat, hang out a bit. Eat your meals in the restaurant...don't scarf and bolt.

You will so much more enjoy the ride. I would recommend coming up with some way to attach a water bottle or drink container...if you get dehydrated, everything else is crap.

My $.02

i was thinking about using my camelback on the trip. seems like that would be the easiest way to transport water. that should look pretty funny, black old school leather jacket and a camelback

thanks for the tips. i especially appreciate the isight on taking breaks. i am thinking if i can go a little over 100 miles between stops and take 15 to 20 minutes breaks, and a 30 min lunch, i should be able to get there in a couple 9.5 hour days. man thats a long time hopefully i will get some company on the way back, my buddy is thinking about riding his old school suzuki 750 out here.
