Amsoil superiority?
Btw; Mobile 1 in the engine and primary and Redline Shockproof in the trans. Heheheheh ... just had to get my 2 cents in there too.
I put in MOBIL Vtwin 20w-50 in the motor and Pri,,, and MOBIL 70-90 GL in the Tranny this summer,,,,
Ain't gonna be nothing but that MOBIL in her from now on...PERIOD.....
IMO it shifts smoother and runs cooler than any combo I've tried. and its easy to get.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Myself and most of the guys I ride with use regular ole' Rotella T 15W40 in the primaries of our bikes.
Never had a problem, and it costs all of about $2.50 a quart.
You don't really need to use expensive stuff in the primary, as the fluid isn't under any type of load or anything. It's main function is nothing more than to 'splash lubricate' the clutch pack and chain. Just make sure that whatever fluid you use doesn't contain a high PPM moly count which might cause problems down the road with the clutch pack.
For what it's worth, the email below verifies that regular Rotella T 15W40 has a JASO-MA rating, which means it contains very little (if any) moly so it is safe to use in wet clutch applications;
"We recently ran the JASO MA friction test on Rotella T with Triple Protection 15W-40, Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 (CI-4) and our Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 CJ-4.
All three oils passed the wet clutch friction test. Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 (CI-4) has more than 1.2% ash (JASO MA spec limit) so it can not be classified as JASO MA. However, Rotella T with Triple Protection 15W-40 and our soon to be introduced Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40 CJ-4 do meet JASO MA."
