I was wondering if anyone knows how much of a HD motorcycle is acctually made in America and how much of it is out sourced to other countries? I became interested in this from another thread that is about another topic so I thought I'd start a thread about this subject. If you have information about this, please state your source so that others can reference it and see for themselves. If your just guessing or going off hear-say please don't answer.

I was in a Dealers in BC this summer and the Salesgirl told me that Harley had actually gone back to making some of their Leather Jackets in the US and showed me three different models that had the "Made in the USA" label. She understood from her contacts that this change was a) a policy change, b) going to be expanded to other products, c) the economics of shipping from China or India were not what they once were, d) US quality and quality control was better and e) Harley's marketing people felt there was a marketing value in it
There is a small wave regarding c and d lately.........would be great if it swelled big time. Shipping costs are rising steadily and the bean counters (I love to hate sometimes) are beginning to realize the "true cost" of poor quality control. Getting varied quality parts into the assembly/manufacturing plants can be a nightmare.
Now if marketing can make some real in roads creating value out of Made in USA we might see even more come back to US soil. But US plants are also going to have to be lean & mean efficient machines to take advantage.

So what you're saying is he isn't allowed to post any questions unless he has more than 10 posts? Guess the post police are being formed as well as the spelling and grammar police. Hope the OP doesn't wear assless chaps.
On topic, don't forget the assemble plant in Brazil. Sportys where was your bike assembled?

From wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
So based on this he posted nothing inflammatory, extraneous or off-topic (general discussion forum). Pretty sure his intent wasn't to provoke anyone or disrupt normal on-topic discussion.
With that being said, I didn't make up any bullcrap. I just asked a simple question as to why you said he was troll. Pretty self-explanatory. You get your panties in a wad and throw a hissy fit? Damn wasn't trying to **** ya off was just curious why you said it.
Nor did I tell anyone to f-off. But like everything else in life I just take it all in stride. Hope you a delightful day.

I see many posts like this but when I pulled the top 12 t-shirts off my stack, 9 of them were made in the USA. Where did you get the 99% figure? I'd like to see the source.
I don`t know where the other guy got his T`s from but I have 7 - from Atlantic City, Vancouver BC, Orlando, Montreal, Vegas - add a summer jacket, leather coat and riding boots - everyone MADE in CHINA.

Maybe HD is getting smart - Last month both CAT and IBM announced closure of Chinese plants due to "patent theft" and poor quality/construction.
Don`t know about IBM but CAT announced the replacement plant will be built in Texas - I`m thinking the tide is slowly turning and these big companies are waking up the the quality issues in China.
