I'm not a fan of posting accidents or reading about them, but I came across this in today's paper and sadly I felt the need to share it.
My heart goes out to the friends and family of this tragic accident, but I can't help but think that this could have been prevented.
When that cage pulls into your lane and you have to react, please stay cool, focus on what you have to do, hang back, even pull over and take a moment to calm down. Can't go back in time and change the outcome of this tragedy but maybe learn from it and ride on.
that sucks big time,
I was down that way on Saturday and heard about the accident when I got home.
there has been a few bike accidents in that area latley
After reading this I must admit I have had the same reaction to being cut off where I should have said F it and enjoyed the ride instead of being pissed off.
Thanks for sharing the link. I wonder if there were any other witnesses or if they have to go off the statement of this 17 year old kid? We had one here locally a few days ago when a guy ran into the back of a pickup at a stop sign. The collision threw him a good ways and he suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene. No helmet worn. He was beiing followed by his girlfriend who said that he had just bought the bike and she was following him home. Tough way to go.

Tough way to go? Better than most. On a ride and killed instantly (or close to it). That'll work for me.
A guy in a SUV started to pull into me/my lane and I accelerated ahead of him.
I knew I was in his blind spot and had already started to speed up when he started his lane change.
I just kept riding and didn't let a little mistake ruin my day.
I have to believe that everybody that has gotten behind a wheel has made a mistake somewhere sometime. You've got to be able to just realize that it's part of being on the road. Some are idiots that shouldn't be driving but some are just ordinary mistakes by somebody like you and me. You've got to be able to let it go. I've gotten to the point where I just laugh at them. Dummies. And try to stay out of their way.
It seems more and more, I am just shaking my head at all the stupidity out there while riding. Even with riding knowing that I am invisible to all other drivers on the road. I can not stop thinking about the guy who posts here, whose signature says something about; if you think they are out to get you, it's because they are (or something to that effect).
I just can't get angry over it anymore.

I've had the same reaction. It isn't helpful and I'm working on it.
Although the cager screwed up, it was the biker's reaction to what happened that put him off the road. Getting pissed off is a choice - you can choose not to get pissed off - and it seldom makes the situation any better.
Riding home from the Oyster Run this year (Anacortes WA) I was west of Port Angeles and it started raining heavily. A man driving a truck, talking on his cell phone turned right into me, I was watching him so i was able to avoid being jacked into his front quarter as he merged into my lane, i gunned it and jumped in front. I was really tempted to slow down and have a chat with him ...but I chose the higher road, and just enjoyed the ride in the rain. In any situation, patience is always a virtue.
