Default New vs. Used -- if $$ not object

If $$$ is not an object, which would you buy -- used (with someone else's modifications -- and less depreciation) or new (clean slate, but hammered on depreciation when leaving the lot)?

Also, one of the considerations that comes to mind is this: who owned your bike before you, and did they take care of it like you do? Fortunately for me, the used bikes I have acquired must have had owners with the "pride of ownership" like I do -- and the condition of the bikes reflected that. I've had friends who thought they were getting a good deal, only to realize after they take possession and ride the bike a while that it had been "trashed," ridden hard and put up wet... Many problems and leaks....

So, for my $.02, I've bought the bike that will live with me for quite a long time and, with the right maintenance, will hopefully not become one of those bikes we all read about that "marks its territory" everywhere it is parked.... So far, 14 months and 15K miles -- and not a peep of trouble.

So what do you say: New or used??? And what experience with both???

If money is not an object than who cares about depreciation. So if money is not an object of course you get the new one and put on all the mods you want. I haven't bought anything used in the last 20 years.

I bought mine used. It was from a dealer and it was a Fly and Ride rental that they sell off every year. It was owned by the Moco and they had to keep it serviced properly. They gave me all the service records and all, and of course it was bone stock so I had the pleasure of changing it. I will be keeping it for quite a long time before getting another one. I would also like to keep it when I get another one. Who knows if my next will be used or not.

New for me. If nothing else a 2 year warranty as opposed to 30 days.

Used only if i really knew the prev owner well

If money is no object why even consider a used one. Buy new and spend whatever you want to make it your own. Either new or used you will later want to change or add something. Ride the new one stock for awhile so you can really appreciate the changes you make to it. I never liked the idea of having modificatios made at the dealers before I have had a chance to ride it as is.

I agree with txfxstrider, unless there is a certain year model you want.

Money no object, new with warranty. Besides, don't want to pay for extras i may not like or were installed improperly.
If money is an object- may still be new if possible. Need the warranty, can't afford to fix it after i blow my wad on the bike. Used are often so close to new as sellers try and recoop all the money they put in it. Easier to get a loan on new.
And the #1 reason for new (ding, ding, ding) free year membership to HOG!!!
