I just saw a guy on his Harley giving a young.....about 7 year old boy a ride behind him with no strap, grab rails or backrest. The kid was really enjoying the ride but that in my opinion is not a smart thing to do. A lot of people think, Oh that will not happen to me, Im a safe rider. They think it always will be someone else that has the crash.
Saying that kids die on playgrounds and playing sports is no way to justify taking that kind of risk as on a motorcycle.
I think it should be illegal under a certain age.
please do not use this trajic incident to invite government into my home to tell me how to raise my children. I am positive your parents had no govt help in raising you and the fact that you stood for your country says you turned out ok.
It is a truly sad thing to have a friend lose a child in a bike accident. My buddy lost his 10 year old son in a low speed accident. The kid would have probably been fine if he had not been wearing a helmet. Life is a risky thing. There are no guarantees.
What a terrible news story, of course there rarely are any good news stories. My heart goes out to the family.
So far as kids on bikes go, some of my most vivid memories as a kid are riding with my uncle on his many motorcycles, that is what has me riding today.
While is a true tragedy .. Only thing I will add is yes definitely think about the possible consequences before letting a child ride .. That said I rode with my Dad thousands of fun filled miles on his old Indian as did my sister as well .. I have given all my children except oldest daughter who just didn't want to ride, many miles of Riding pleasure with the rest and 4 grandkids as well who are all now old enough to ride their own as a couple of them do now.. For the rest is just great memories shared.. ..
