It's not the area that's Hippie Liberal crap, it's the Obama bumper stickers, and Pelosi, and tie dyed shirts. Sorry my opinion.

I have liberal friends, I just don't talk politics with them, I'll ride with any of ya'll, any time.

Some great pictures folks, and now I'm really looking forward to it. Some of the posters have mentioned Yosemite and Mammoth area (and June Lake loop); that's old hat to me just like Death Valley because I see those places several times a year. Riding CA-36 and the NorCal coast south is bucket list stuff for me. Someone mentioned micro-brews...and yes, looking forward to that too!

SloChicken - I'm doing almost the same loop, just reversed and chopping it off at SF and cutting the corner. This weekend I'm off to Morro Bay/SLO for a few days of riding. figure to do some of the 1 north to Big Sir (depending on traffic), then a little south to the Santa Barbara area. Since I've done the LA to SD run too many times to count there's no need to repeat it. That'll give me most of the CA coast.

Yep, the San Diego to LA route is basically an exercise in survival, and it sucks.
Once u are at Malibu it gets significantly better,
it gets a little tight around san francisco, but otherwise the riding was fantastic.
The beer etc are excellent up north too! I highly recommend the trip!

Yea, haven't been around in awhile but thought I'd chime in. My daughter lives in Ft. Bragg. Works at the Brewery now part time and is going to school in Mendicino. She's been there for 8 years and wouldn't move out of there if she had to. We visit every year at least once. I do love the way the locals talk about their "crops" the way mid-westerners talk about corn as in how weather effects things, the yield, etc. Seeing the pix of the lighthouse makes me laugh. My wife tripped there last year and put a huge cut in her arm: 12 stitches. (Not to say a large quanity of wine was not a contributing factor) My other daughter was there last year and damned near died from a car accident. She pulled through and is living in Monterey now. Avoid the Ft. Bragg hospital at all costs!! If you want a "western" version of the Dragon (maybe not as bad) take 20 from Ft. Bragg to Willits.
My kids are pretty smart. They both keep yelling at me to get out of Mich. and move there and we have been giving it some serious thought. Couple more years to retirement.
It's a beautiful area and we look forward to that trip every year.
