Dumb question- I see a lot of ads on Craigslist that say "xxxxx original miles"
What exactly does this mean? Are there fake miles? Unoriginal miles? Is it miles on the bike with an original engine?
I think the miles on my bike are original too because I put them there. Just askin...

original miles indicates that the odo is correct. There are a lot of issues where the mileage showing is not original, which really means "actual" for example: TMU stands for true mileage unknown so if a vehicle has had the odo break or there is a discrepancy you get a TMU vehicle. Often it comes up when the mileage is in excess of the mechanical limits as well. There is also an issue with people either rolling back the odo or replacing it with a lower mileage unit. This happens less these days since it became a federal offense (at least I seem to remember it is?) to tamper with the odo and electronics make it harder too. On cars; Carfax tracks mileage at different times during a vehicles life. One more is when a motor is replace and someone tells you there is X miles but really they are only quoting you the miles on the motor. There are other situations as well but I've listed some of the big ones.

good question. Next time, I'll hit'em with " If thats the original miles, what the fake milage ?" .....and see what they gonna come back with. Bet they'll think twice the next go-round.
