went out on a great ride yesterday, it was one of perfect days when you can't resist the call of the road. well, i was cruising on a stretch of ohio 97 between butler and loudenville (goes thru the mohican state park, just gorgeous). anyhow, in one of the curvy protions, i check my mirrors and see i have 3 sportbikes behind me. i'm cruising along at a more than reasonable pace thru the curves, when the first squid decides to rip past my in a no-passing zone! i start into a fairly sharp BLIND left turn, when the other 2 squids decide to pass me! there's no freakin way they had any idea if there were any cages coming around that turn, and if one did i would have been toast had they been hit! and to make matters worse, all 3 were riding with their girlfriends! it just blows my mind that not only do these a--holes not care about themselves, but they clearly don't give a **** about their ladyfriends or anyone else! i just wish i could understand their thinking (or lack thereof)!!![sm=rant.gif]
I've been there and I handle a situation like that in a totally different manner. I see them, I pull as far to the right side of the lane as I can, I slow down and with my left hand I signal them to pass me on the left. In a matter of seconds it's over and there is no heart-burn or attitude problems.
I can understand their thinking. Used to think like that. 10 feet tall & bulletproof and trying to prove to the ladies how cool I am to improve my chances later on after the sun goes down.
My Dad used to say to me often "Boy, what were you thinking?" to which I'd always respond.. "Uhhhhh, I dunno!". He'd tell me and tell me how stupid I was acting. I was just waiting for him to get off my case so I could go out and do it again. At the time I was considerably smarter than he was... he's learned a lot in the last 20 or so years.
I do what whaap does. I used to be the guy doing the passing a few years ago, and remember that in those days it didn't matter who was where, I was gonna get there first. No I Just pull as far right as I can and let em by. Then when I get to where I am going, they always thank me for that as well. I feel safer too. It's not about ego on the road. It's about life or death. Seriously.

Uh.................I do believe I am guilty of that back in my 20's.....................[sm=devilgrin.gif]
Same thing here. I just pull to the right & let them go. I too used to be the squid. They're just having fun also. The way I see it if I pull to the right there's no danger to me.
I do the same thing also. Letting them blow by you at well above the speed limit is a great way to flush out any police officers waiting up the road with their radar guns at the ready.
