Only problem I ever have riding in cold weather is my hands. Have tried several kinds of gloves - ski gloves are the warmest but too bulky and awkward. After about 20 - 25 minutes the wind gets through even my good leather ones. What are the best (non-electric) riding gloves some of you are using. Are there any gloves that offer the warmth of the ski glove but are also flexible enough for riding?
I know you said "non-electric", but have you considered the Gerbing G3 Hybrids? They have an option to power them with a small battery pack that tucks away into a pocket on the top of the glove. I like them. No wires to run.
The best, without electric, is just like the rest of your body. Layer. Get a good pair of gauntlet shell gloves then use an insert glove as well, like a wool, spandex or silk.
I have a pair of lined gauntlets that I've had for over 10 years, the lining is pretty much useless on the warmth side, but the shell is still excellent. Put on a wool liner and I'm toasty.
I use a rubber lined gloves that outfitters sell to guys on commercial fishing boats. With a pair of light liners for breaking the wind that I got at bicycle shop and they work really well. Not good if you are fashion conscious I guess.
Those along with a set of wind deflectors from National cycle and my hands stay warm and dry.
+1 on the wind deflectors! They have made it possible to ride many days with unlined leather gloves. On the colder days, a pair of Thinsulate wind/waterproof gloves from Cabela's ($25.00) and trips are downright comfortable. Less bulky than ski gloves too.
Most of you don't like HD clothes for some reason, but they have a mid weight insulated leather glove that keep me comfortable to the mid 40's. After that the electric's go on.
I can't wear gaunlett gloves. Don't like big gloves.
I got a pair of Gortex leather gloves from the Harley dealer. They come just above my wrists. They work great with my FXRG Harley jacket and I wear a sweatshirt under my jacket with a hood and leave the hood out. Got my Harley leather vest over the sweatshirt.
Ride with a pair of Leather chaps from Cycle gear that has a quilted removable liner and cowboy boots.
I have posted these chaps.
Got a Nolan N102 modular helmet for cold weather to help keep the cold off my face.
I leave the face shield closed when its super cold and breath out my nose, If it fogs I crack it just a little. http://www.extremesupply.com/category/Brand-Nolan.html
Rode this weekend 125 miles with it 33*
This helmet is too hot for me to use when its hot outside. I use a AVG Migula for summer.
