Quick question for you guys, I dont normally wear a helmet but with the colder weather approaching I don my handy modular full face to break the wind. I recently got new straight pipes (sikpipes.com) put on and with out the helmet Im fine, but with it on I get a rediculous amount of reverb and cant hear well when I get off. Is this just a full face thing or maybe the style of helmet i have? Thanks in advance for the help!!!
I don't have overly loud pipes (Rush 1.75s) and I get the reverb pretty bad with my HJC symax II modular. Sounds like I'm wearing a metal trash can on my head.
My wife who has the same pipes but wears a full face claims she doesn't have an issue with it. She does have a neck collar in her helmet so that may make the difference.
I wear disposable earplugs on long rides. Also helps if I crack the visor a bit.
its the helmet, my Fulmer modular is at least 3 years old and it's starting to show. When I'm riding I can put my hand flat under my chin and all the excess wind noise, pipe noise, and cold air in my helmet goes away. I'll have a new FF before the end of the cold season.
Turtle fur neck warmer keeps the noise down. I don't like my helmet too tight so I expect some noise. Ear plugs for when it bothers me---lot cheaper then a new helmet that would be too tight if it made the noise go away.
Yeah it's a full face thing. When I had my 08 Kaw Z1000 and did wear a full face the bike did not sound like much, but with the lid it sounded awesome LOL! I have ever had a full face on when on my HD's, but I'm sure if I did when on the XL50 I would be deff in a half hour. I too have open pipes on that bike.
