Heard many a rev limiter at the buffalo chip during the Motley Crew concert. Made me cringe every time, it just didn't sound like a good thing to do to a motor. One guys bike popped and died after he did it about 10 times. I know for a fact that bike was not ridden out, pretty sure he blew it. Do as you please but that is not how I will treat my ride. Good luck.
Ideally, shifting just prior to hitting the rev limiter would be the fastest way from point A to point B.
And... hitting the rev limiter isn't the best thing for the motor. The nature of the rev limiter with those quick on-off pulses at WOT and high RPM transmits a lot of shock loads through the engine.

I would think knowing your bike's torque chart, and shifting to stay in the maximum power band, would be faster. A lot of bikes torque drop off at the higher RPM's, especially stock ones. Different cams/engine builds would all have different points where the optimum shift would be.

You're right! The point I was trying to make is that you don't want to be hitting the limiter on a regular basis.
