That bike in the fire looks suspect to me. Like someone else already mentioned, the risers aren't right. Neither are the stars on the tank...and didn't the movie bike have finned pan covers?

Me and 2 of my buddies went to see Easyrider at a drive in when it came out on our motorcycles, 2 Triumphs and a BSA. Life changed after that for me at least. I saved up and bought a Sportster and put a 8" extended front end on and throughly enjoyed living large for many years.

Even to this day, when I get the time to take my bike out, I hear the theme song start in my head ( God Dam the Pusher) and then-------- 4 gears and Heading out on the highway, Looking for adventure!!!!!

What a blessed time!!!!!!!

Well, the history I have learned or taken in, growing up with panheads is that the bikes were old police bikes(five or six) bought at a surplus auction. Of the 1959 vintage. A builder of the time was contracted to build them Grizzly Adams (then a stunt man) was tasked with keeping them tuned up & running. The bikes were stolen before the film was finished, hence them not being in the some final scenes.

The pics of the original (trust me I helped build a twinkie) Captain America have what sorta' resembles a square voltage regulator cover with an ignition switch in it down by the kicker. That and the dog bone risers, seems like that was a way around the maxium handle bar height law.

Speaking of stars and stripes and Harleys.....

I would like to know where Evel Knievel's bikes are.

I still want an XR750 to pull wheelies on....bring on those fountains!

Peter Fonda said in an interview that both bikes were stolen before they finished filming the movie. They had to scramble to build two more to meet filming deadlines.
