Ok. It's been a while since I had a chance to ride. New job and the weather has been nuts.
Yesterday I saw the temp was going to be in the high 60's. I'm off so out to the shack to check the Heritage. Turned the key on try to start and nada. We 'll crap I forgot to put the tender on her.
So I break out the charger and hook it up. It's one of the sears computerized gizmo's. After supper I go to check. The fancy charger says charged and has cut off. And still nothing.
Well I break out the old 20 year old sears and hook it up. Yes the charge needle is up.
The next day I go out and it still won't start. I decided I was going to ride. I got the truck to jump start it.
Seat off, cables hooked up, truck running. STILL WON'T START!!!
By now I am livid. Unhook the truck, get it out of the way. I finally decide to roll her out into the sun and start to trouble shoot.
I cleared some stuff out of the way. Grabbed her by the handle bars and pulled.
The #%!&*** thing was in gear. Kicked it into neutral and she started right up. Looked back and my wife was on the porch laughing her a** off.
I'm going to blame it on the cat. Yea it knocked it into gear. Think she will buy it?
Glad you got going. But never have the truck (or car) running when you jump your bike's battery. The truck's charging system puts out more juice then your bike's battery and electrical system is designed to handle. If you do indeed have a weak of dead bike battery just the energy from the non-running truck battery is way more than enough to turn over the bike.

+1. A friend of mine fried the electrics in his speedometer doing just that.
Now that's funny!! I think I admire you for actually sitting down and telling cyber space what happened. Way to own it man, I mean... way to point out that cats...
I kinda had the same thing happen on my biks but a differant outtake.
The 08 sporty has the clutch switch, the wifes 01 sporty dosen"t have a clutch switch.
This is a small thing, but it helps if your battery is weak, or you just want to make things a bit easier on a good battery. Get into the habit of pulling the clutch lever in when starting, even when you're in neutral. That way your battery doesn't have to spin the mass of an engaged clutch pack along with everything else.
Nothing more frustrating that overlooking the simplest things...been there too & glad yours was easy fix. Hope you got to take that spin in decent weather.
