You are not alone - AT ALL!
I demo'd most every bike out there trying to decide.
Bottom line for *me* was price and comfort and what met my needs?
I needed to be comfortable, I needed to go long distances every so often, I needed enough space to add luggage, I needed a big (not biggest) gas tank, I needed speed to pass cars on 2 lane roads, I needed it to not be too specialized that I could get parts or fix myself, II wanted floorboards, I wanted a big front tire and I needed to NOT have a loan. Lovely feeling that I don't owe anybody. Don't overlook the pre-owed dept. ALL HD are great.
I also needed to think of the future and my capabilities as I got older - but that's me dealing with my age. I also just wanted it to just plain look good.
With that said, use good judgement, don't rush into a buy, don't get emotionally attached till you find the comfort you are looking for and just ride!! It's the best feeling in the wind!
The Softail - for me - was like an old shoe. Had everything I wanted for my current place in life.
This is actually a pretty funny thread you started...I was wondering the same thing of others myself! I test rode a Fat Bob and was totally sold, then when I went to the dealership there was a used '07 RKC that was AWESOME which I took for a spin and loved it...
I had the opposite problem, I went in to look at some warm gloves, had no intention of getting a new bike. I sat on this Deluxe and heard the angels sing, didn't even test drive it just bought it and rode it home. There was no other choice.
