Hey, first let me say that I am pleased that my dealer had me in for a ‘safety inspection’ before my warranty ran out to see if anything needed to be covered under warranty.
What I’m not so excited about is seeing my ‘inner primary oil seal’ and ‘oil seal’ listed as being replaced after only having been replaced like 4 months ago.
Anyone know anything about that? Is there some known issue that I’m not aware of?

Oil seals can be a pain. I can't go by part numbers, just from what I see but I think you will have 3 oil seals on your inner primary. A big round rubber one that goes around your stator & seals your primary to your engine case. another one that seals your transmission output shaft at the rear of your primary & the 3rd that seals your starter nose gear in the top rear of your case.
If not installed properly, they could leak or wear out prematurely. but also if your transmission & engine are not aligned properly, your shafts will sit in the seals on an angle which could cause them to leak.
A 3rd possibility would be a warp in the primary case causing a crappy seal on your front "O" ring seal around your stator.
The only other thing that might be happening is a crack in the inner primary from over torquing the mounting bolts.
Where do you see the leak???
hatch.
Maybe you should take it back in and ask them to investigate what the primary cause is. Show them where it was replaced 4 months ago. Get em to the research and fix it right. Mention what HachetMan stated have em check those areas. JMHO

Thanks for the replies - I actually have never seen it drop a drop of oil, the service guys have spotted it and replaced it for me.
He said that it wasn't actually dripping onto the garage floor so I'm betting that the synthetic oil is the problem. My main shaft seal leaked a very small amount for 15,000 miles until I replaced the synthetic lube with a good cheap dino. Now, it's as dry as a popcorn fart.

I'd be pretty uncomfortable with that. I'd be wondering if it will come back in four more months. LOL
However, it could just be the Dealer scamming the mothership outa some warranty dollars. You know they are hungry in this bad economy.
I'd actually be pleased to find that out.
I'd be looking for clues that showed the bike wasn't even touched during the last service.
