I appologize so much for not responding to post fast enough, not being so bright, and using the wrong tense for the forum gods. Please forgive me!
The crank went at 48k miles. I dont know why, I changed the oil with amsoil per service manual intervals (which Im thinking is too many miles).... I pulled the engine and took it to a highly recommended engine builder. Mods will be, dynamic computer balanced crank assembly, boring cylinders, forged wiseco pistons (upping compression to 10:1), s&s oil pump, andrews ev27 cam, porting the heads and oversized valves. I will also be adding some "thunder monster" baffles to my drag pipes. Im going to reinstall my engine, then trailer the bike to the builder for initial start up.
Ok, I have to go try to make a buck, so I wont be back on here, untill at least tonite. Have a great day and stay safe.
It is an evo, not a twin cam. I really dont know why it blew... Ive always rode it hard, not "doggin it" (Forum gods please forgive me for the term "doggin it") but alot of mountain, and interstate ridin. My engine builder said, in his opinion, goin 5k miles between oil changes on an evo ,that is ridden that way, is way too much. He has built many engines over 25+ years and he says, the engines he sees that change oil 2500-3000 last alot longer, but he also said it may have nothing to do with the oil and may have just been flawed crank parts. Who knows? The only thing I know for sure is, it "blowed" and that sucks! I got a really good start on reinstalling it yesterday. My wife said if I was the "american chopper show" I'd be at the last commercial now, haha. All I have left to do is install, pipes, passenger side floorboard, seat, batt, and tanks, put all the fluids in it and I will be ready to trailer it back to the engine shop for startup. My bike doesnt like riding on trailers, she has only been on the trailer 1 time in 9 years, and that was when I was scared to drive it because it was "knocking" so bad and trailered her to the engine shop to be diagnosed. I cant wait to be riding again!
Oh yeah...Rompus, what I did was, I pulled the engine and took it to the engine guy, to save on labor cost. He built it and I went and got it and am reinstalling it. Then when Im done I will take it back to him for him to start it up and tune everything. I do most of my own wrenching, and considered building the engine, but Ive never been it the bottom of one and have had so much goin on I just decided to do it that way and now Im glad I did. The engine builder has been very open with me and has asked me to make several trips to his shop because he wanted me to see that he did everything, he said he did. Ive always been "leary" of letting anybody work on my stuff because I know for sure there are alot of "crooks" out there, but not this guy. Im not goin to brag on him too much , just yet, untill I have the wind blowing on my smiling face, but i can tell he knows his sh&*.

this is really annoying! this is a forum, you dont have to be a rocket scientist or journalist to start a thread,no doubt there are some far more intelligent on here then others!!
so he said "blowed up" instead of "blew up" whoppty do! so what??
some of the "guys" here that could write an article for the wall st journal are the same guys that cant do an oil change on there scoot, or screw down a toilet role holder! so who are the stupid ones????
now, what caused the engine to blow?? was it oil related?? maybe the cam tensioners let go?
it shouldnt be something you should have to worry about happening again!
No the guy that did my engine is Doc Slick in sugar hill. I live in North hall, sardis area.
Damn, you mean to tell me there's a good motor guy in Sugar Hill?
My '93 Sportster motor 'blowed up' back in Oct. of '09, and I replaced it with a '02 Heritage. I still have the Sporty in my garage and my wife is after me to get it fixed for her.
