I paid about a $1000 under MSRP for mine. No impulse could ever make me pay $3000 over 'cause I know all I have to do is hit a few more dealerships and I'll get what I am looking for.
When I got my '07 Vivid Black Superglide I paid MSRP, $12,400 in Sherman, TX about 30 min from home. Thought I would give HD of Dallas, just up on the hwy, a chance and they wanted $13,995 [:-] for an '06. Too many people with money to burn around here.
I bought my Road King used from Mikes. I feel I got a great deal, and good price on my trade also. I had to negotiate and it wasn't hard. As someone else said those list prices are for impulse buyers and those with damaged credit. There was a lot of negotiations going on while I was there and several new bikes were sold, I'm sure they were discounted. Mikes treated me very will and I will definitely give them a shot when I'm ready to buy new.

The Allen and Garland stores are the same owner and they will mark up everything until model switchover (with rare exceptions). Then you will get under or at MSRP depending on the leftovers.
I payed 3000 over msp at mikes, but that was when you had to wait on the list for 3 years to get a softail. Got the bike the next day. Would not buy from him again unless the same situation applied. But his service dept. was the best. Good techs.
There walking into the dealers everyday and paying whatever price they have on bikes/assessories/parts/clothes cause its coveniant. There to damn lazy to shop around they want it right away. Thats the type of HD rider you are getting now days. Probably the same ones that pull into a gas pump and pay $$$ but if they would of went down the road a ways or around the corner they could of got it for less. It's conveniant less they have to do. I think the days are numbered for HD selling there bikes at MSRP there going to follow the same trend as car/truck dealers. I will not pay those prices for anything. This ole boy did not fall off the tree today.
when you find a dealer that wants everything in your pocket plus your first born, look for another dealer. All dealers have to honor the warranty, so you can take it wherever it is convenient for warranty work. My sales dealer is 100 miles away, my local did my warranty until the warranty went away. Now I do my own work.
