Default Excluding Jesse James, how are

the big name custom bike designers doing these days? Did the depression empty the pockets of all the rubs buying those $100K bar hoppers?

IMO the fad ended before the economy went south. It is a wonder that we haven't heard of more of them closing down.
About 5 years ago there were many small shops opening around here. I think all of them are closed now.

Pretty much, I think. And the crap resale value of the big buck bikes started keeping new buyers away.

This economy has been tuff on just about everyone. You can score some really good deals, on those "overpriced toys" right now!

All that "high livin", comes with some pretty brutal crashes, when things go south. These guys made great money, but they also had "lifestyles" that spent great money, plus some.

I don't know, somebody posted a comment a while back about all those guys from "Biker Build-Off" being out of business, so I searched around the web a little and, surprisingly, they all still seem to be in business. Even Detroit Brothers, which I thought should have gone out of business during the "fad." Heck, Rick Fairless just started his second TV series this year.
