Default Trailer Question?

i do not have a garage at my house. for now my bike lives on my front porch but i would prefer it some where a bit more out of the weather. i have a wielder and almost everything i need to build a trailer that could be used to carry it around. i was looking at horse trailers and thinking to model it after one. anyone here more experienced at this then me willing to part with a bit of knowledge? i have fixed many vehicles and repaired many trailers but never fabricated one. i think i have the skill for it. but suggestions would be much appreciated. also i want to keep it under 1400 lbs... want to add electric brakes and thinking on ways to wire it up possibly an A/c unit off an rv for something so it could be used for camping as well and such.

With many thanks,
Rahl

Wouldn't know how to make a trailer - but personally, and if I had the need and place for it, I'd fabricate a shed instead.

Look at Harbor Freight's web site. They have kits to make trailers from.

look at a beater boat trailer..
its not very high , and you could "fab a ramp".
floor it , and add 1" square tubes to make side . and roof ..
get started , and let your imagination dictate the next move

Do ourself a favor. Look and find yourself a set of plans or draw some up. Then go out and price all the material you'll need to make one. And I mean everything, right down to hitch parts, lights, wiring, etc. Then check out just what ya can buy a trailer for. Ya dont need a high frills one unless thats what ya want. This is of course you really want to build one. I do a lot of woodworking and do build things just because I want to so do it if ya really want to but prices really arent that bad on some of the trailers Ive seen

Look at used trailers, you will probably be able to find one for less than it would cost to build.

thanks for the responses. i have been looking around i might get an old 60's or 70's horse trailer and modify that. not really finding much else in my price range right now. the upside to building is i can do what i can afford each month. the shed idea is nice but i only have a half acre of land and want to keep as much of it as possible for the dogs. also not sure how much longer i plan on living here and i do a lot of work on the weekend a moving toolbox would be awesome. i have started drawing some plans. did not think of the boat trailer to start with thanks though they are much cheaper (found one in my area with brakes for less then 200$).

This is the reason I bought my trailer...as a garage for the bike. I have found I use the trailer much more than I ever thought I would, and not just for hauling the bike around. Mine is a Pace 6x12 enclosed trailer I bought from Home Depot.

Save up til you can find and afford an enclosed trailer on Craigslist or in the newspaper. I bought a beautiful dedicated open bike trailer but wish I had an enclosed one. Much more useful for many tasks and much safer for traveling with bike if the need arises. Just my two cents. Good luck.
