HOG is what the members make it. Charlotte NC chapter has folks that ride much more than some of the posters on here. It also has folks who ride to the meeting and to bike night and that's it. Each chapter usually has a core group of member who do everything and participate, much like any other group. HOG doesn't atempt to be a MC, has no wish to be, it's an RC and anybody who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
Visit around and see how the chapters run, if you like it, join, if not, then move on.
For those who look down on HOG, I don't think anyone is forcing you to join so don't
HOG Chapters are what you make, Fortunate to be a member of the Fullerton Chapter. Very supportive dealership, And members that are active. And the whole point is to ride and enjoy the ride safely.
HOG is like any group of people. It is all dependent on the people in the group some good some not so much. We have been chapter members for a long time. We have friends all over the country because of HOG. We also have been on HOG rides that I stopped half way though it and would not ride with the group for the rest of the ride. Over all we have had many more positive experiences than negative ones.

Had a HOG membership for a year for the road insurance. Tried a few times to "group ride" with local groups (a riding club, also church group).
Even though there are some great people in the above ride groups: Don't like being on the schedule of everyone else, having to reach consensus on where/when/etc.
Wife and I both have pretty much decided to do our own thing.
Those of you that enjoy the group thing: Knock yerself out.
