Donnie Smith is world renowned as a custom bike builder. He also is credited for inventing the girder front ends of early choppers along with being the founder of the city. Snowmobile parking is free, so most travel that way, or by dogsled. Mush-on dude!

Also one of the co-founders of the Hamsters MC.
When I first started driving, my first solo drive was the Frost top in Fridley, Sun drive-in on about 27th and Central, and East and West Porky's drive-in's. Later made my way to the Roller Garden roller rink.
Fun times back then.
Porky's!! Best Onion Rings ever!! My sister and I went to South high School in Mpls and would eat at the Porky's on Lake St. whenever we could.
Sorry, but the FOX9 news is reporting that Porky's is closing on Sunday (April 3rd). If you want it, get there fast, because it won't be there on Monday. The new light rail train construction is killing all the business along University (for now). Too bad, I love their burgers!

I lived behind that Porky's for a couple of years. (University ave. & Lynnhurst-St. Paul). Good food & good folks working there, they will be missed. There was always something cool goin' on there. When the HotRods come to the Fairgrounds in summer, they always cruise past Porky's. They'd stop and do burnouts for the crowds until the cops showed up. My roomie got bit on the azz by a K-9 dog when the St. Paul Police practised "crowd control".
Some car & bike clubs will have to find another spot for their meetings if Porky's closes...
Wow, I didn't even know Porky's was closing on Sunday 4/3. We just happened to go there after several years. In the 60s, my aunt would take my sister and me to the Lake Calhoun Porky's in the summer in my parent's '61 Ford Sunliner Convertible. We'd get the "Kiddie's Suprise"....A hamburger, onion rings and a toy! In the 70s, my friends and I went to the East Lake Street Porky's for the same burgers and onion rings and street racing. Used to hit Sun Drive-In on Central, too. Here's an interesting link: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=341268
