Default Identity crisis

Hey all. just bought my 1st Harley. loving it. the previous owner (second) said it was a police defender. but when I look in the service manual for vin i.d. it doesn't show. the vin is 1HDIGKV151Y. he said it was a 01 FXDP police defender but I can't find the GK model designation anywhere. it's definitely stamped on the frame and label on right front. thanks for any help

You're looking in the wrong manual - police models will have their own parts book and service manual, as do CVO models.

Your fourth digit is a "1" - the letter "I" never appears in a VIN, nor does O or Q.

See here for a longer model list that includes GK for the FXDP: http://www.harley-riders-guide.com/h...idson-vin.html

Try entering your VIN here:

It worked on mine.

Glad it worked.

Probably not a good idea to post your full VIN number, maybe edit your post and remove the last six numbers like this - 1HD1GKV151Y******.

Someone could use it for a scam sale on line to make people think they really have the bike.

What's the risk? Anybody can read it off the downtube - just like they can off your car's dashboard!?!? Who cares?

Scammers in Bahrain can't read your downtubes or your car's VIN on the windhshield. Neither can people in all 50 states.

Kind of like not giving out your checking account number over the WEB. It is on each check you write after all, but that doesn't get posted on the WEB.
