I don't see a need to wear a backpack. I ride a bagger most of the time.

Maybe he is gay & it was a compliment??

In any case - I really dont care that much about what I look like - but I'm pretty particular about the bike. The softail std doesn't have bags & I don't want bags. I don't "tour" or ride across the world. I do ride to work & I need to bring the laptop etc. So - I'd rather look like a hunch back. I'll do the backpack anyday.

I'm not sure if I'm in the "older generation" or not - I hope not - I used a back pack in the 80's & I have no problem with 'em.

As someone mentioned, see mostly the younger guys with backbacks because that's what they grew up with carrying books to school.
Now when I have extra stuff to carry I wear one of these, cuz that's what we grew up wearing.

Backpacks are wearisome and uncomfortable to wear for very long. Plus my RK has more than enough storeage in the saddle bags and if necessary either luggage rack or detachable tourpak for a long road trip.

If it doesnt fit in those places then I simply don't need or desire to carry it!

Old school here. I used a backpack all the time, however I dont wear it.
It gets strapped to the backrest. Now I have bags. Much better.

Don't wear one, never did. Always strapped everything down.

Got a bagger now so no need.

One other reason I wouldn't and don't if it has been mentioned is something we were told in my MSF course wayyyyyyyyy back when: What happens if you are carrying some hard in it and for unforeseen reasons go down and land on your back. You stand the possibility of that article acting as a fulcrum and breaking you back or at minimum severely injuring it.

Only wear one when the need arises. Make friends with guys that ride baggers, for longer group rides.

My laptop rides in my backpack/briefcase on my work commutes.
