I run a pack if I'm taking a lunch to work, or grabbing something from teh store. Maybe I gotta pick up/drop off something at a freinds place, I use the backpack. Works well for going to teh range as well.
I used a backpack when I commuted to work on my Dyna. Traded it for a Heritage, problem solved.
My Heritage looks like yours... No bags, lol. I have a backpack that was issued out at the Indy races at the Nashville International Raceway for us to carry our stuff in. It is a mesh backpack that I put in the windhshield bag and pull out to take groceries or lunch home. I have run a cross a deal or wo on the road and needed a way to get it home. I always have the backpack available and the bike always looks nice and clean.
If I am taking a road trip, on go the bags, backrest bag and all. Heritage is the way to go all the way. Get to the hotel, and take the bags, backrest bag, backrest, back seat, and windshield in the room so the bike is badass while there. It's 10 minutes to convert back to full dresser!
I wear a backpack when I ride to work, (which is almost everyday), only because weather tends to change here pretty quickly, also I carry non essentials, iPad and other odds and ends for when I have to double over. I don't have saddlebags, and it wouldn't help anyway as I take all my gear into work so I have it when I leave at night, (work 2nd shift mostly, double shifts often). it's a small lightweight mesh backpack, with a black waterproof bag inside. Often I just bungie it to my backrest, rather than actually wear it.
I understand why some bikers wear a backpack (no place to put anything), but, my general observation is that most (not all) Harley bikers don't! Is it just that a lot of bigger bikes have extra storage, saddlebags and such, or is it a state of mind? Don't see many, if any, Sporty, Dyna, or softail bikers with backpacks. I truly feel that this is a "Harley" state of mind!
To "feel at one with the road" is for real. To cast off the daily grind and get lost in the rumble of your engine and the wind in your face is a genuine practice we preach and live by. It doesn't matter where we come from or economics or any of that other BS. To me, strapping on a backpack would almost be sacreligious. It would in part defeat the purpose of swinging my leg over my "steel horse" to escape to my reality!
AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT!
I carry my lunch in my backpack when I ride to work.
I carry 3 days change of clothes in it when I go on a trip.
Don't like wearing one? Talk a friend into carrying your stuff on his bagger.
That way you can still look cool for those that worry about how you look.
I even have a Harley-Davidson Backpack that the Stealer gave me for some reason that I can't recall at the moment. But, I have used it . . . it can be convenient at times.

yeah i hear ya, its a fashion show. ya gotta worry about what you look like, what people will think of yer "outfit". after all, if you dont see other people doin it, well, you arent going to rebel and do whatever you want, are you?
no doubt you cant "feel at one with the road" on your "steel horse" when you "escape from reality" if you have the wrong backpack on, hahahahaa... i mean, it might not match your shoes, and then what would people think?!?!?!
T Bags Falcon. There is room for a rain suit, gloves, couple of water bottles, etc. Not a ton of space, but it's better than nothing. You can sandwich your jacket between the two if you get the top bag.
